Five Common Instagram® Analytics Mistakes

Uncategorized Apr 30, 2021

Looking at your Instagram® analytics is a crucial element of building your business online.

Analytics help you understand how your business is performing and gives you an insight into how best to improve engagement with potential customers.

Although it’s important, it’s not necessarily straightforward, and it can be easy to be too caught up on checking how many followers you have, as well as how many likes and comments each of your posts receives.

In this post, we take a look at five common mistakes businesses often make when analyzing their Instagram® accounts.

You’re Not Tracking It Periodically

It can be tempting to take a look at your Instagram® figures whenever you feel like it.

Still, if you don’t follow your analytics regularly and then utilize the data to inform future posts, it isn’t easy to use the information.

It’s best practice to sit down periodically (at least once every month) and review the content you’ve posted.

This way, you can consistently review performance over the same period of time, meaning any changes you make will be easy to review and analyze.

You’re Tracking Too Many Metrics

Did you know you can analyze up to fifty different metrics on Instagram®? That’s right, fifty! It’s basically impossible to track your success over fifty different metrics, and we don’t recommend trying it.

It’s a good idea to stick to just five metrics, and we’d recommend the following:

  • Profile visits
  • Comments
  • Shares
  • Saves
  • Follows

You’re Being Impatient

Although you want to see great statistics right away, growth on the Gram doesn’t happen overnight. Don’t be tempted to pay for followers or attract spam followers.

These are essentially vanity metrics and won’t help you in the long run, as it will mislead you to believe that your social media presence is more valuable than it actually is.

Create on-point, quality branding that appeals to your niche, and your metrics will gradually improve periodically.

You’re Not Being Smart With Your Goals

In order for your analytics to make sense, you need to be SMART with your goals and deliberate with your strategy.

As you may know, your goals should be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound.

If you don’t set SMART goals for the metrics on Insta you wish to analyze, it will be hard to measure your success.

You’re Not Using an App to Track Your Analytics

Tracking your analytics yourself can be time-consuming and requires lots of patience.

The great news is you can make use of one of several awesome third-party apps that help you track your analytics. Three of the best apps on the market are:

  • Iconosquare
  • Simply Measured
  • Sprout Social

It’s important to note that these third-party apps require a paid subscription, but they can be worth the expense.

However, before you invest in one of these subscriptions, it’s best to make use of the free analytic tools on Instagram®, so you know what you’re looking for before signing up.
